It is not a good idea to play golf by guessing where the ball will go. But there are ways to improve your ball striking and cure early extension issues.

With the help Top 100 Teachers in GOLFJonathan Yarwood will show you how to improve your swing sequence and contact. See what Yarwood says below.

Stop early extension for better ball-striking

Have you ever wondered why your ball-striking skills are so poor? Most of the time it’s due to the dreaded early-extension and its close cousin; having zero body rotation at impact. Both of these things go hand in hand.

The earlier you stand in the downswing the less likely you are to open your body. It’s simple, really.

If the spine is straightening and the pelvis is moving forward, there’s a limit in how far you can turn — meaning you’re shortening your rotation. But there is one thing that all great ball strikers have in common. Staying in great golf postureAnd working around their spine.

To achieve this, there are two things that must occur in the transition.

First, the pelvis should glide a few inches toward the target (‘reentering’ is the posh name). So the old adage of keeping your back to the target wasn’t too far off — which is why I talk to my players about backing into the shot.

The second thing you can do, and this is only possible with a good transition, is to open up your body when you impact the ball. This will allow your trail leg and ankles to roll towards the ball. This video shows you how to perform this unique move.

This rotation of the body accomplishes two things. It helps you to maintain your posture by creating a sideband. While in this posture, it rotates your body to improve sequencing. These two things improve your ball-striking abilities by improving contact.

So start slowly to get the feel for this move, then build it up to regular speed — I promise you’ll love the results once you master it.
